How does laser therapy work?

K Laser is laser therapy has many beneficial uses such as alleviating chronic pain, accelerating healing, stimulation of blood supply and oxygen to the tissue and proliferation of new cell growth making it a fantastic method of management for a number  of conditions.

Laser energy is absorbed in water, increases local circulation therefore drawing oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.

When is class IV K-Laser beneficial?

Pain management

this is a non-invasive therapy used instead of or as well as  drug therapy for the treatment of chronic pain. Osteoarthritis is one of the most common causes of chronic pain and we have great success managing this condition .

We can offer a full arthritis management service with advice on home adaptions, additional therapies such as hydro and physiotherapy, medication advice etc. We have great results with our chronic pain cases and have many long term patients with these conditions.

Wound healing

Laser therapy can significantly reduce healing time, while at the same time improving the quality of tissue ( more proliferation of normal cells, less tension and scar formation) traumatic skin injuries and surgical incisions benefit greatly from laser intervention.

Rehabilitation

Bone and muscle injuries and orthopaedic surgeries often require additional rehabilitation solutions. Laser therapy provides a non-invasive treatment for quicker recovery.

We offer a package of laser treatments to take place both before and after elective orthopaedic surgeries to give your pet the best chance of a quick and comfortable recovery.

FAQs

Is treatment covered on my insurance ?

Yes! Every policy is different, however almost all pet insurance companies now cover rehabilitation in the form of Hydrotherapy, Physiotherapy and Class 4 Laser. We would encourage you to check your individual policy, but it is more than likely you will have some form of cover for rehabilitation.

How long does each session take?

Initial consultations can take up to an hour. Your pet may be booked in for one single therapy such as Physiotherapy or Laser, or you may have a combination of therapies at each visit. We will make you aware of the length of the appointment and work around you as much as possible when we make your appointment.

How long before i see results?

This is very dependent on the condition we are treating and which therapies are being used. We are always very careful to manage expectations and fully discuss with clients throughout every appointment with regards to progression and timescales. Some conditions may start to improve after 2-3 weeks where as other conditions such as complex spinal cases can take may weeks or months to rehabilitate .

My Dog hates water ! How will they manage with Hydrotherapy?

You may be surprised, we see many animals who would ordinarily avoid water and would certainly never choose to swim. We take a very gentle and slow approach with these animals to ensure we never put them under any stress during the session. We may suggest short acclimatization sessions where you visit the center for a short time to get your dog used to the surroundings and enviroment and we will give lots of fuss and treats on the waters edge and start to gently introduce the water over a period of time. Most dogs, and even cats, can benefit from Hydrotherapy and it should never be a stressful experience. In some cases where the animal cannot be acclimitised we will suggest alternative therapies to aid rehabilitation.

FAQs

Is it painful to my pet?

No, it is a painless process. It is usually pleasant and comforting to the animal, as a warming sensation is felt at the treatment site.

How long does each session take?

A typical treatment time is 3-8 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. For many acute conditions 1-2 treatments may be sufficient. Chronic conditions may require 5-8 (or more) treatments. Some conditions may require ongoing periodic care to control pain

How long before the results are felt?

Your pet may feel improvement in their condition after the first treatment. Sometimes they will not feel improvement for a number of treatments. This does not mean that nothing is happening. Each treatment is cumulative and results are often felt after 3-4 sessions

What if I cant bring my pet to a clinic ?

We do lots of home visits! Please contact us with your location and some information about your pets condition and we will try our best to come out to you.

Is it covered on my pet insurance?

Laser therapy is a recognised by most pet insurance companies and we submit lots of claims every week . It is a good idea to phone your company and check before you want to submit a claim.
